How do you test gold purity?
We use a combination of acid testing, electronic conductivity testing, and non-destructive XRF analysis. XRF reads the actual elemental composition of the metal without scratching or marking the piece.
What do the numbers stamped on my gold mean?
Those are fineness hallmarks. 999 is pure gold, 916 is 22k, 750 is 18k, 585 is 14k, and 417 is 10k, which is the U.S. legal minimum to be sold as gold.
Do you buy gold-plated or gold-filled items?
We can evaluate them, but they carry substantially less value than solid gold because the gold layer is very thin. Our testing clearly distinguishes plated and filled items from solid gold.
Is a collectible coin worth more than its metal content?
Often yes. Rarity, mint year, condition, and grade can push a numismatic coin well above its melt value, which is why collectible coins are assessed differently from bullion.
